Boys water polo remains undefeated in state | Win against CPA runs Islanders’ record to 9-1-1

The Mercer Island boys water polo team continued its dominance of in-state teams on Friday at Edgebrook Country Club, defeating Castaway Polo 16-7. Despite the final score, the game was not all Mercer Island, as CPA outscored the Islanders during the second quarter and played tough during the second half.

Dewey hasn’t missed a step in bigger shoes | Sophomore has helped lead volleyball to an undefeated record

The success of the Mercer Island volleyball team has been a surprise to some. Its undefeated record in eight matches, including a 3-0 win against Sammamish on Wednesday, was not necessarily expected after losing four key starters from the 2007 roster. One of those players who moved on was the team’s starting setter for three seasons. This year, sophomore Ariel Dewey has stepped into the position and the team has not lost a step.

Mercer Island High School boys water polo team captains David Bowman

Water polo’s new era uses past success as blueprint

Most high school teams change from year to year. That change can sometimes include a new coach, an extra non-league tournament, transition of talent and sometimes a new place to play home games. For the Mercer Island boys water polo team, change means all of the above.
