Spartans pull away from MI girls

Stanwood tops Islanders 45-36 at Stanwood High School Friday night.

Holding Mercer Island to ten second-half points, Stanwood’s girls basketball team pulled away in the fourth quarter to deal the Islanders a 45-36 loss Friday night at Stanwood High School.

Playing its second game in two nights, Mercer Island (3-2) led 26-24 at the half before the Spartans (4-1) outscored the Islanders 21-10 after the break. Anna Luce led the Islanders in scoring with 13 points, while Julia Blumenstein had 7.

Finishing a three-game stretch, Mercer Island will take on the Lynden Lions at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13 at Lynden High School.
