Thunder wins division at Northwest Juniors
The Island Thunder Volleyball Club, 12-and-under team finished its season by winning their division May 6 at the Northwest Juniors Adidas tournament at Bellevue Community College. They knocked out Bainbridge Island to compete in the finals against the Olympia Intensity U12 team. The team is coached by Dino Annest, Mercer Island High School varsity volleyball coach. The girls are fifth and sixth graders and include: Emily Lightfoot, Janie Akiyoshi, Kirby Emerson, Carly Wilson, Robbie Blood, Lark Reusch, Gailen Baber, Kristen Anderson, Maggie Paulich, Maddy Bloom and Becca Jones.
Lacrosse team finishes season undefeated
The Mercer Island third through fourth travel lacrosse team finished undefeated this season while playing teams from Bellevue, Eastside, Sammamish, Lynnwood, Eastlake, Snohomish and Bainbridge Island. The team was coached by two Mercer Island High School varsity players, Ian Le Cerf and A.J. Ellis.
Players included: Eamann McMillion, Preston Melick, Evan Condon, Bernie Agress, Jake Rogers, Trevor Gullstad, Eli Phillips, Michael Sedlacek, Ian Kelly-Hedrick, Phillip Winnick, Henry Eckert, Peter Lopes, Hank Barenborg, Michael Krebs and Mitch Stickney.
Four Islanders help Eastside team to title
The Eastside Football Club 92 White girls U14 soccer team won the 2007 State Challenge Cup. The final game against Bainbridge Magic was held at Olympic Stadium in Silverdale. After a scoreless first half, the Eastside team scored three goals during the second half to win the State Championship 3-0. The team finished the regular season undefeated. The Eastside team, coached by Brooke Reece, consists of girls from Issaquah, Bellevue and Mercer Island. The Mercer Island players are: Lauren Frank, Tara Nielson, Ahbra Franco and Claire Jensen.
