Swimmer Enge qualifies for U.S. Olympic Trials

Mercer Island High School (MIHS) junior swimmer Piper Enge qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials last month in California in the 100- and 200-meter breaststroke events.

At the TYR Pro Swim Series at Mission Viejo’s Marguerite Aquatic Center from May 17-20, Enge — swimming for the Bellevue Club — took third in the 100 breast A final (1:09.05) and hit 1:08.81 in prelims. In the 200 breast A final, she placed fifth (2:31.00).

The U.S. Olympic Trials will take place from June 15-23, 2024 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.

During her sophomore and junior seasons, Enge was named swimmer of the meet at the 3A state championships.

As a sophomore, she nailed first-place performances in the 200-yard individual medley (1:59.92) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.44). Both marks were automatic All-American times.

During her junior year, Enge topped the field in the 200 IM (1:59.94) and 100 breaststroke (1:00.69). Enge set a state record in the 200 IM (1:58.13) in prelims.

“She has a great work ethic. Aside from just being physically strong, I think what sets her apart is her mindset on what she needs to do to keep advancing and getting better. She does a good job of never being too high or too low; keeping things serious when they need to be and loose the rest of the time,” said MIHS head coach Chauntelle Johnson. “We are lucky to have her in the program and excited to have her as one of our captains for the team this fall.”
