At the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association spring representative assembly on Monday, April 18, the group of representatives from school districts acrosse the state, voted down adding boys and girls lacrosse as sanctioned sports.

The measure was defeated 35-0 for the boys and 33-2 for the girls.

Supporters of adding lacrosse as a WIAA sanctioned sport, which would make it like football or basketball rather than a club sport, have tried four times since the late 1990s to have it added. The WIAA voted down each amendment, in 1999, 2002, 2005 and in 2010.

In other WIAA news: in high school football in games where a team has a 40-point lead, the clock will now run continuously for the remainder of the game, except for official’s time-outs, charged team time-outs, time between quarters or for a score. For schools in the 1B classification the game will end when there is a 40 point lead.
