Events
Book signing by local author Diane Kinman, who wrote “Franca’s Story,” is at 7 p.m. Friday, July 22, at Island Books. The book details how Franca Mercati Martin, a Mercer Island resident, survived in World War II Italy.
Wooden O Theatre presents a free Shakespeare in the Park series. “Macbeth” at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 21 and July 28; Friday, July 22 and July 29; and Saturday, July 23 and July 30, at Luther Burbank Park Amphitheater.

A Car Wash is from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday, July 31, at Mercer Island Auto Spa, 2730 76th Ave. S.E. The cost is $10 per car. Proceeds will benefit the Mercer Island High School girls soccer booster club.
Clubs
The ProBus Club of Mercer Island will meet at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, at the Presbyterian Church, 3605 84th Ave. S. E. The speaker is former State Senator Jim Horn, past chair of the Senate transportation committee. His topic is “What’s Going on in Transportation?” The public is welcome.

Madeline and the Gypsies for 3-year -olds and older only, is at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2. Presented by Northwest Puppet Center. Tickets will be given out a half-hour before each show. Seating is limited.
Dealing with Dragons for 3- to 6-year-olds is at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 26. Meet dragons through stories and find out if a dragon’s breath can cook up something delicious.

Dragons, Dreams and Daring Deeds summer reading program has begun. Bring your child to the library to sign up. There will be free programs, prizes and drawings as children read through the summer.

Fitness Boot Camp for 16-year-olds and up, is from 6 to 7 a.m. to Aug. 5, at the North Mercer gym, 8817 S.E. 40th St. and the Mercer Island High School track. Bring a water bottle. The cost is $150 for 5 times per week, $90 for 3 times per week.

Galleries
Chamber Art Gallery photography show will run through September. Featured photographers: Derek Juhl, a graduate of Mercer Island High School and the University of Washington; and husband and wife team Ron Reeder, who has reinvented an old technology in printing his photos, and Judith Roan, who prefers black and white classic images. Reunions
The East Seattle School Class of 1946 is celebrating its 60th reunion this summer, despite that it has been only 59 years since the members finished eighth grade on the Island.
