Mercer Island’s Youth Theatre Northwest presents “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” from March 9–April 1 in the Parish Hall Theatre, 4400 86th Ave. SE.

In the show, an eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming “ding” of the bell that signals a soul crushing loss.

“The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” won the Tony and the Drama Desk Awards for Best Book.

This show is best suited for a teen and adult audience, and tickets are only $10 for teens. There will be special youth oriented performances (for ages 10+) on March 11, 18 and 25.

Friday and Saturday performances will be at 7 p.m., with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.
