The Diversity Awareness Partners at Covenant Shores presented Harold Spooner with the “Spirit of Martin Luther King Jr.” award on April 3. The presentation was part of the 50th anniversary remembrance of Dr. King’s assassination, which was April 4.

Spooner is the vice president of community impact for Covenant Retirement Communities. Covenant Shores on Mercer Island is one of its 12 campuses nationwide.

The Diversity Awareness Partners are a resident-driven organization that seeks to educate residents on inclusion, tolerance and equality.

“Spooner is the first recipient of the what will become an annual award,” said Chaplain Greg Asimakoupoulos. “The Spirit of MLK Jr. Award is a way of focusing on the core values of Dr. King’s dream while celebrating those in our midst who embody them.”
