Fielding joins Mercer Island School District/ School briefs

The Mercer Island School District announced that Randi Fielding has been named the new assistant director of special services.

This past school year, Fielding was the principal at Butterfield Elementary STEAM Academy in Maricopa, Arizona. From 2022-2024, Fielding was an assistant principal at Magma Ranch K-8 in Florence, Arizona. She was the acting principal and dean of students at Copper Basin K-8 and Circle Cross K-8 in Florence from 2019 to 2022. At Poston Butte High School in Florence, Arizona, she was an instructional coach in the 2018-2019 school year a general education and special education teacher from 2013 to 2018.

“In my career, I have served as a special education teacher, instructional coach, dean, assistant principal and principal. I am also a National Board Certified Teacher and was honored to receive the National Outstanding Assistant Principal Award for the state of Arizona,” said Fielding. “These experiences have helped shape my mission: to cultivate an inclusive environment where all students and staff feel safe, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.”

MIHS gym-naming process

The Mercer Island School District is currently in the process of forming a committee composed of students, parents, alumni and community members to guide the naming process for the Mercer Island High School gym.

The committee is expected to meet three times in the evening for about an hour during September or October (exact dates to be determined) to review proposals and gather broader input.
