David Horsey will discuss “The Disappearing Art of Political Cartooning” at the Rotary Club of Mercer Island’s meeting on May 19 at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center, 8236 SE 24th St.

The main meeting begins at 12:30 p.m.; socializing is from noon to 12:30 p.m. Guests are always welcome and there is no fee to attend. A catered lunch is available for $25, or attendees can bring their own meal.

The two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist will be sharing insights and images from his long career at the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, The Los Angeles Times and, now, at the Seattle Times. With the business of journalism in sharp decline, Horsey’s brand of political commentary is imperiled, but he is exploring new creative outlets, from substack to novel writing. The one thing that is not running out, given current political realities, is material for his cartoons. Horsey will discuss all of that and more.
