Discharge of consumer fireworks is prohibited on MI

The city of Mercer Island reminds residents that as the 4th of July holiday nears, the discharge of consumer fireworks is prohibited everywhere on the Island at all times.
The ban is in place because fireworks increase the risk of serious injuries, property damage and brushfires, the city said, adding that, “Loud fireworks can stress pets, wildlife and neighbors, including veterans. Fireworks-related calls can strain the capacity of first responders.”
For fireworks-related emergencies, people can dial 911 immediately; for complaints or violations, residents can call the non-emergency police dispatch line at (425) 577-5656. For questions, contact the city’s customer service team at (206) 275-7600.
“This ban does not apply to professional, permitted displays like the annual Summer Celebration fireworks show on July 11,” the city said.
