Mercer Island resident Helen Hansen signed a National Letter of Intent to girls lacrosse for the University of California Berkeley.
Hansen was a member of the Mercer Island girls lacrosse team that won the Division II state title in 2009. Then, as a freshman goalie, she named name the most valuable player.
Hansen then joined the team at Culver Girls Academy and helped lead them to the Indiana State championship game, where the team lost. Last year, she was selected to the women’s National Team which played in the National Tournament in Stony Brook, N.Y.
After receiving several offers from other Division I schools, she chose Cal Berkeley because of it’s academics, as well as being on the West Coast and because the head coach Ginger Miles was once a goalie herself.
