Mercer Island gymnastics send five to state

Five Mercer Island gymnasts competed in the gymnastics 3A District Championships Saturday, Feb. 15 at Mount Si High School. Catherine Seifert, Emily Lightfoot, Cheyanne Lewis, Tonayo Crow and Stephanie Prince all advanced to the gymnastics state championships.
Advancing to the state meet were the top three teams, the top five all around scores and the next top 13 individual scores in each event. Mount Si, Holy Names and Lake Washington earned the top three team scores, with Mount Si winning with a score of 164.125, followed by Holy Names at 157.725 and Lake Washington at 149.925.
Seifert and Lightfoot both placed in the top ten for the beam competition, with Lightfoot taking sixth with a score of 8.525 and Seifert taking eighth with a score of 8.425. Lewis placed in the top ten for the floor competition, taking fifth with a score of 9.15.
At the state tournament, Seifert will compete in the vault, bars, beam and floor competitions. Lightfoot and Crow will compete in the vault, bars and beam competitions, and Lewis and Prince will participate in the floor competitions.
The 2014 gymnastics state championships will take place Feb. 21-22 at the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall.
