September 29

Traffic offenses: A bicyclist was cited for negligent driving in the second degree for multiple traffic violations in an intersection at 84th Avenue S.E. and S.E. 26th Street.

September 30

Prowling: A 29-year-old Island man said his unsecured vehicle was prowled in the secure parking structure of the Island Square Apartments at the 7800 block of S.E. 27th Street. Tools and equipment were stolen, for a loss of $2,150.

October 1

Warrant arrest: Washington State Patrol stopped a vehicle, whose driver had a valid Mercer Island Municipal Court warrant. The subject was transported to Issaquah jail and booked into custody.

Burglary: An Island man who lives at the 7200 block of 87th Avenue S.E. returned home to find his sliding glass door and screen opened to his bedroom. His wife verified she had shut the door that morning. The family dog who sleeps in the room likely scared the intruders away, police said. There was no damage, and nothing was missing or disturbed.

October 2

Fraud: An Island man and woman at the 3600 block of 72nd Avenue S.E. reported identity theft and fraudulent use of credit cards.

Burglary: An Island woman at the 7200 block of West Mercer Way said a bicycle was stolen from her unsecured garage, for a loss of $600.

October 3

Informational report: MIPD officers responded to a disturbance at the south-end QFC. Four young adult males who reportedly had been drinking were confrontational with store employees when the store was not open for business. The subjects were trespassed from the store.

October 4

Runaway: An Island man at the 9000 block of East Shorewood Drive reported that a juvenile was supposed to stay at a friend’s house and left without permission. It was considered “continued disobedient behavior.” The subject’s location was unknown at the time of the report.

Theft: An Island man at the 7600 block of S.E. 27th Street reported that his rear license plate was stolen.

October 5

Theft: An Island woman at the 8400 block of S.E. 33rd Place said her credit card information had been compromised three times since August.

October 8

Prowling: An Island woman at the 7200 block of 79th Avenue S.E. left her wallet on the floor of her locked vehicle. The passenger side window was shattered and the wallet was stolen, for a loss of $255.

Prowling: An Island woman said her unlocked vehicle was prowled at the 8500 block of S.E. 40th Street, and $600 in items were stolen.

Fraud: An Island woman at the 5600 block of 80th Avenue S.E. reported identity theft and credit card fraud.

Prowling: A Burien woman said her car was prowled at the 2400 block of 76th Avenue S.E. Her window was shattered and a bag was stolen, for a loss of $300.

 

September crime by the numbers

Every month, the Police Department calculates crime statistics and compares them to numbers from the year prior.

In September of this year, there were 81 serious offenses, compared to 49 in 2014. The department had 18 more cases of theft, 13 more cases of identity theft and three more cases of auto theft. There were seven fewer traffic accidents.

This year, there were 10 adult arrests and zero juvenile arrests. Police arrested 11 adults and one juvenile last September.

There were 1,176 calls for service this year, compared to 1,252 in 2014.
