Mercer Island installs new LED streetlights in Town Center

The City of Mercer Island is currently working to replace all of the streetlights in the Town Center area, putting in new energy efficient LED lamps.

All 228 lights are being replaced, putting in the new lights from the old 100-watt metal halide lamps.

The first phase of the project is expected to cost around $34,000. Part of the money is coming from a conservation grant from Puget Sound Engery for 50 percent of the total cost. Based on PSE’s calculations, the change will save the city over $8,000. LED lamps last up to three or four times as long as the traditional halide lights.
