“Soirée a Thonon, `Au bord Du Lac,” will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 7, at the Mercer Island home of Tom and Cynthia Captain. AM/PM Pals for children in full-day kindergarten through fifth grade is from 6:30 to 9 a.m. and from 3:30 to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. Staff members accompany your child to and from the school bus to the three public elementary schools, prepare nutritious snacks, plan arts and craft activities, assist children with homework, play large-group games in the gym or outside, and supervise free play with Legos, board games, computer time and more. Family caregivers support group is from 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, at the Mercer Island Senior Health Center. The group is open and free to anyone concerned about or caring for an older adult.
“Crafts on your own” for seniors is from 9:30 a.m. to noon, Tuesdays, at Covenant Shores lodge. Bring your favorite craft hobby and meet new friends. The cost is $3.50.

Off Island
Inaugural Seattle Safe in the Shade Walkathon begins with check-in at 8 a.m. and walk at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, May , at Lake Sammamish State Park, 20606 S.E. 56th St. This is a two-mile walk to benefit the Melanoma International Foundation. Activities include free screenings from local dermatologists, an interactive health expo, kid friendly activities, and a special take-home Safe in the Shade Tool-Kit.
East Shore Gallery will be exhibiting “Earth, Air, Water, Fire — Elements of Creation” through Monday, May 2. Linda Todd, Meredith Adami and Mary Etta Goes, Mercer island residents have organized this collection. The exhibit hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and by appointment. Call 425-747-3780.
