A Mercer Island city pick-up truck hit a 6-year-old girl in the crosswalk at Island Crest Way and Southeast 68th Street at about 9:30 a.m. on June 15.

Mercer Island Police Department Services Commander Jeff Magnan said the girl was riding her bike and crossing the street with her mom when a Parks and Recreation maintenance vehicle hit her, while traveling at a low speed.

The Mercer Island Fire Department evaluated the child and the driver, and sent the girl to the hospital to treat her minor injuries. She had scrapes on her hand and nose, Magnan said.

“She was wearing a helmet, which was good,” he said.
