Mercer Island School District (MISD) sent out a letter on Oct. 31 to make sure that all families have access to the food support they need, especially with the ending of SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits on Nov. 1.
“SNAP is a federal program that provides food assistance to low-income individuals and families, and we understand that this change may cause hardship for some MISD households,” the letter reads.
Those who need support can reach out to Mercer Island Youth and Family Services (MIYFS) at 206-275-7657 or the district.
“We’re here to help connect families to resources and ensure that everyone in our community is supported,” the district said.
