Islanders compete at USA Triathlon Junior National Championships

Two Mercer Island girls competed in the USA Triathlon Junior National Championships, which were held Aug. 2-3 in West Chester, Ohio. Sophia Coco, 13, and Ellie Bailey, 12, were among the 500 youth and junior competitors taking part in the running, swimming and biking events.

Bailey finished first among 12-year-old girls in the swim leg of the competition and 25th overall in her age group, while Coco finished 57th overall in the female 13-15 age group. Both girls are members of the RockSteady Junior Triathlon Club, which trains around South King County and Pierce County.
