Opportunities to Attend Community Special Events:

• Mercer Island Parks and Recreation is hosting a free Family Movie Night, “Toy Story,” from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on May 15 at the MI Community and Event Center. Snacks provided, outside food welcome. Registration at the city of Mercer Island Parks and Recreation website is recommended and arrivals are welcome at 5 p.m. Visit: https://www.mercerisland.gov/parksrec/page/family-movie-night-toy-story

Opportunities to Join:

• Next city council meeting is at 5 p.m. on May 19. Options for joining the meeting include in person at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center, a Zoom link on the city’s website and MI-TV (Channel 21). Citizen appearances: An opportunity to speak to the city council on items of interest. Speakers must register by 4 p.m. on the day of the council meeting at cityclerk@mercerisland.gov and are given three minutes to speak.

Gatherings With Councilmembers:

• Councilmember Ted Weinberg will hold his next monthly gathering at Crawlspace at 10 a.m. on May 16, providing opportunity to discuss a variety of topics of interest for Mercer Island residents. If you would like to attend, an RSVP is appreciated at tedweinberg@comcast.net.

• Councilmember Julie Hsieh shared a reminder about the upcoming Vibrant Art Walk at Town Center on the first Friday of the month, June 5, and her next Coffee Chat will be from 11 a.m. to noon on June 10 at ASA Mercer Island.

Other Important Citizen Notices:

• The updated city’s Transportation Improvement Plan, one for the 2027-2032 time frame, was adopted at the May 5 council meeting. A public hearing will be continued and announced.
