Opportunities to Attend Community Special Events:

• A free “Stop the Bleed” class will be offered at 6:30 p.m. on May 28 at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center. Registration is available on the city’s website and there is room for 30 participants in the class. Visit: https://www.mercerisland.gov/emergency-management/page/stop-bleed-2

• Tai Chi in the Park, a free event, is scheduled from 4-5:30 p.m. on May 30 at Mercerdale Park to celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month.

Opportunities to Learn More/Provide Feedback:

• Next city council meeting is at 5 p.m. on June 2. Options for joining the meeting include in person at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center, a Zoom link on the city’s website and MI-TV (Channel 21). Citizen appearances: An opportunity to speak to the city council on items of interest. Speakers must register by 4 p.m. on the day of the council meeting at cityclerk@mercerisland.gov and are given three minutes to speak.

• E-Bikes on Mercer Island: A survey is open for Mercer Island residents regarding how community members currently use e-bikes and perceive e-bike regulations. Results will be used to assist in policy recommendations. Survey is available on Let’s Talk Mercer Island.

Gatherings With Councilmembers:

• Councilmember Ted Weinberg will hold his next monthly gathering at 10 a.m. on June 20 at Hap’s, providing opportunity to discuss a variety of topics of interest for Mercer Island residents. If you would like to attend, an RSVP is appreciated at tedweinberg@comcast.net

• Councilmember Julie Hsieh’s next Coffee Chat will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on June 10 at ASA Mercer Island.

Other Important Citizen Notices:

• Potential impacts of the 2026 FIFA World Cup for Mercer Island residents between June 15 and July 6 were discussed, noting primarily the impact on the Interstate-90 corridor, as well as Town Center parking. More information and recommendations for managing parking and commuting off the Island is available on the city’s website.

• Boards and commissions open positions were voted upon and finalized by the city council at the May 19 meeting.

• This year’s Mercer Island Farmers Market will begin at 10 a.m. on May 31.
