June 28
Collision: An Island woman sideswiped a parked car in the Farmers Insurance parking lot, but moved to a different spot and left the area without reporting. A witness observed the incident but did not see the driver. She returned while police were on site and admitted to hitting the car, but claimed she didn’t know what to do since no one was around.
June 29
DUI: A 21-year-old Renton woman crossed over the lane divider multiple times on eastbound I-90, and was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence. Police said she had alcohol on her breath and admitted to drinking. She failed field sobriety tests and provided blood alcohol level results of .225 and .228. She was booked into SCORE Jail.
Warrant arrest: A 42-year-old Bellevue man was arrested at the 8600 block of North Mercer Way on an outstanding local misdemeanor warrant after a traffic stop. He was transported and booked into Issaquah Jail.
Prowling: A 50-year-old Island woman reported that her unlocked car was prowled overnight at the 3600 block of 88th Avenue S.E. A bag with a laptop, iPad and camera inside was stolen.
Prowling: A 47-year-old Island man reported that his car was also prowled at the 3600 block of 88th Avenue S.E. while parked on the street.
Burglary: A 53-year-old woman who lives at the 4500 block of 89th Avenue S.E. left her garage door open. Her two unlocked vehicles were prowled and electronics were taken.
Prowling: A 32-year-old woman at the 9000 block of West Shorewood Drive said that her car was entered unlawfully by force while parked in a secure parking garage. Items were taken from the vehicle.
Collision: A Mercer Island man and a Burien man had a fender bender at the 7600 block of S.E. 27th Street. The Island man said he was exiting a parking lot and had crossed the center lane when the other sped up and collided with him. Police were unable to determine which vehicle was in the roadway first or which failed to yield.
Prowling: A 43-year-old Island man reported the theft of a cell phone caddy, pair of sunglasses, $30 in cash and a bag with emergency road equipment and a blanket from his car at the 3000 block of 80th Avenue S.E. The car was locked, and there was no indication of an entry method.
Prowling: Prescription sunglasses and about $5 in loose change were stolen from a 72-year-old Island man’s unlocked car at the 3600 block of 88th Avenue S.E.
July 1
Theft: A 71-year-old Island man said that his locked bicycle was taken from the secure parking garage area of the Mercer Apartments at the 7600 block of S.E. 27th Street.
Prowling: A 31-year-old Island man’s debit card was stolen from his car, but the prowl went unreported until the card was found with property from another prowl. The vehicle was unlocked and undamaged and at the 9000 block of West Shorewood Drive.
Theft: A 31-year-old Island woman said her mountain bike was stolen from the secure parking area of the Mercer Apartments, for a loss of $710.
Malicious mischief: A 71-year-old man at the 2800 block of 75th Place S.E. reported that a storage door had two hinges cut and had pry marks on it, but nothing was missing.
July 2
Warrant arrest: A subject arrested by Tacoma PD, a 57-year-old Island man, had an active Mercer Island warrant. MIPD took the subject into custody and booked him into SCORE Jail.
Burglary: A 34-year-old Island man reported that a laptop computer and other electronics were stolen after a suspect broke a French style door and entered his home at the 3200 block of 74th Avenue S.E.
July 3
Fraud: A 47-year-old Island man at the 6700 block of 80th Avenue S.E. reported that someone passed a forged check with his name and address on it for $60, and an attempt to open a credit account was made.
Prowling: MIPD took the case after a 57-year-old Island man at the 4300 block of Forest Avenue S.E. reported a car prowl on the roadway in front of his home on June 26. The victim was out of town until June 30.
Theft: A 39-year-old man said his locked bike and trailer were stolen from a parking garage at the 7800 block of S.E. 27th Street.
Fraud: A 46-year-old Island woman at the 2900 block of 71st Avenue S.E. reported that numerous fraudulent checks were deposited and immediately withdrawn from her 18-year-old son’s bank account. Her son, who has autism, had walked to his music instructor’s house in Seattle before the fraud occurred. Numerous attempts to access his account were made even after the account was closed.
Marine: A 53-year-old Federal Way man on a boat was stopped for expired registration on Lake Washington at Gene Coulon Park. He was arrested on suspicion of boating under the influence, and processed and released after providing BAC samples of .114 and .110.
July 4
Informational report: The fire department responded to two separate brush fires near the Mercer Island School District Administration building at the 4100 block of 86th Avenue S.E.
July 5
Warrant arrest: The police department responded to a weapons call at the Park and Ride on North Mercer Way. A 37-year-old Island man was holding a folding knife with a black handle, and found to have a felony DOC warrant. He was transported to and lodged at King County Jail.
July 7
Death investigation: A 30-year-old Island woman at the 7600 block of S.E. 27th Street called MIPD to help with a 39-year-old man. CPR was in progress when police arrived with medics, who attempted lifesaving efforts for approximately 50 minutes with negative results.
July 8
Prowling: A 28-year-old Island woman reported that her vehicle was broken into overnight at the 2700 block of 73rd Avenue S.E.
Prowling: A vehicle belonging to a 75-year-old Island woman was prowled overnight at the 8200 block of S.E. 41st Street. Sunglasses and about $4 in change were stolen.
Prowling: Bank deposit slips, various power/charger cords and a car escape tool were stolen form a 57-year-old Island woman’s vehicle at the 4200 block of 83rd Avenue S.E.
July 9
Fraud: A 54-year-old Island woman at the 4600 block of East Mercer Way reported that her identity was used to make fraudulent charges, for a loss of about $500.
Fraud: A 43-year-old Island woman at the 7900 block of East Mercer Way said her credit card number was used to make fraudulent charges.
Burglary: A 64-year-old Island man who lives on Evergreen Lane reported that his garage was entered overnight and several items, including plastic cases containing guitar power cords and guitar pedals, were taken.
