Grace Fujinaga scored a game-high six goals for the Islanders in the win. Katie Brodsky and Tessa Guerra chipped in three goals apiece as well. Mercer Island improved their overall record to 4-0 with the win. Brodksy (pictured) controls possession of the ball against the Wolverines.

The Islanders have earned victories against the Eastside Catholic Crusaders, Bothell Cougars and Mount Si Wildcats in its first three contests. Mercer Island has outscored its opponents 51-19 in the process. Ben Dunbar and Glen Mahony each scored three goals apiece against Mount Si on March 17. The Mercer Island Islanders boys lacrosse varsity, jayvee and freshman/sophomore teams are pictured in the above photo.

Photo courtesy of Lam Nguyen                                The Seattle Junior Hockey Association’s 14U A1 Junior Admirals squad defeated the Wenatchee Wolverines to clinch the Washington State Tier I championship on March 3. Mason Bull, who is a resident of Mercer Island, is a member of the Admirals team. The 14U A1 Junior Admirals competed in the USA Hockey Pacific District Tier I tournament from March 8-11 in San Jose, California. “This is an incredible accomplishment for our team. We’ve been working towards this goal all season and are thrilled to represent Washington at districts,” Head coach Regan Mueller said in a press release.

Yuasa will also represent Team USA at the 2018 Cadet Pan American Championships on July 6, 2018 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Photo courtesy of Amy Shobe                                The Mercer Island boys swim team captured second place at the Class 3A state swim and dive meet on Feb. 17 at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way. The Islanders, who compiled a total of 374 team points, were just 23 points behind first place Bainbridge Island. Mercer Island athletes that competed at the state meet consisted of Carson Coe, Kyle Bailey, Oliver Hoff, Austin Shobe, Nate Robinson, Evan Hill, James Robertson, Jake Headrick, Killian Riley, Caleb Apodaca, Kieran Watson, Collin Ralston, Ethan Schwartz, Dan Gao, Alex Edwards, John Novak and Gabe Neale.                                The 200 free relay team consisting of Hill, Coe, Riley and Hoff earned first place. The 400 free relay quartet of Richardson, Robinson, Hoff and Riley nabbed second place. The 200 medley relay team of Edwards, Richardson, Coe and Bailey captured second place. Richardson collected individual titles in the 100 fly with a time of 49.84 and the 100 backstroke with a time of 49.78.

Motroni scored an 8.500 out of 11.00 possible in the event, finishing in 36th place during the prelims.
