Clubs

Island Books Open Book Club meets at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 30, to review “Kings of Infinite Space” by James Hynes.

The ProBus Club of Mercer Island will meet at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, at the Presbyterian Church, 3605 84th Ave. S.E. The speaker will be Sesh Velamoor, director of programs for the Foundation for the Future, a think tank dedicated to the study of the future of humanity. The program will be Part II of “Where does humanity go from here?” The public is welcome.

Sons of Norway meets at 7:30 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of the month at Mercer Island United Methodist Church, 7070 S.E. 24th St.

Mercer Island Radio Operators meets at 7 p.m. every third Thursday of the month at the north-end fire station. It provides backup emergency communications for the Mercer Island Public Safety Department. For information, call Bill Ellis at 232-4881.

Concert In The Castle is at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 5. Presented by Nancy Stewart. Join in a royal celebration with jesters, jewels, princes and princesses. Wear your favorite royal costume.

The Dragon Who Came to Visit for 5-year-olds and older, is at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 6. Explore physical sciences, machines, molecules and more. Presented by Mad Science of King County.

Dragons, Dreams and Daring Deeds summer reading program has begun. Bring your child to the library to sign up. There will be free programs, prizes and drawings as children read through the summer.

One-on-One Computer Training is available by appointment. The Interact Club, a group of Mercer Island students sponsored by Rotary, provide the training.

Boys & Girls Club

Reunions

The East Seattle School Class of 1946 is celebrating its 50th reunion this summer, despite that it has been only 49 years since the members finished eighth grade on the Island. The group decided to have the event one year early as the Old East Seattle School may be demolished. It plans to celebrate with school tours and dinner at the Roanoke Inn, and wants to find boats to take the class around the Island. Call Ed Lightfoot at 425-644-9768.
