Approximately $439 worth of alcohol was shoplifted from the north QFC by an unidentified male around 11:03 p.m. on Monday, July 8, at 7823 S.E. 28th Street. The suspect pried open a high-end liquor cabinet in the store and put the stolen items in his canvas backpack before exiting the store and departing the premises on foot.

Sunday | June 30

DUI: A 27-year-old Mercer Island woman was taken into custody at 5 a.m. for driving under the influence and with a suspended license in the 3000 block of 78th Ave. SE. She had previously tried to solicit sex from a 23-year-old man at a gas station and was reported appearing intoxicated. The suspect then entered a vehicle and drove around the block before she was later contacted and arrested.

Car prowls: A vehicle registration was stolen out of an unlocked Jeep Cherokee in the 2800 block of 75th Place S.E.

Two unlocked vehicles parked in a driveway in the 2900 block of 72nd Avenue S.E. were prowled. A Garmin Nuvi GPS unit worth $200 was stolen out of one vehicle.

Sunglasses and a wallet were stolen out of an unlocked BMW parked in a driveway in the 2500 block of 71st Avenue S.E. The total loss was $260. The wallet did not contain any credit cards.

Someone entered a locked Toyota Camry at night in the 2400 block of 76th Avenue S.E. A garage door opener, vehicle registration and insurance card were stolen. The total loss was $50.

Theft: A small-framed hybrid bicycle worth $850  was stolen from the North Mercer park-and-ride sometime after Sunday evening, June 28.

Tuesday | July 2

Theft: A gold and platinum diamond ring and a 14-karat gold watch were stolen from the residence of a 52-year-old Mercer Island woman between 12:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The jewelry was nabbed from her kitchen counter during a time when workers were at her home.

Accident: A hit-and-run occurred in the QFC parking lot in the 8400 block of S.E. 68th Street around 4:10 p.m. Tuesday. A 37-year-old Mercer Island woman reported that she had been backing out of her parking stall and was hit by a car behind her that had failed to stop. She subsequently followed the vehicle after the driver, a 68-year-old Mercer Island man, refused to exchange personal information with her. The victim’s husband called the police and the other driver was identified and contacted by police.

Wednesday | 3

Disorderly conduct: A 56-year-old Mercer Island man entered Luther Burbank Park while intoxicated at 2:30 p.m. in the 2000 block of 84th Avenue S.E. Police contacted the man, who had an open alcoholic drink. He was ordered to dispose of the drink and leave the park. Police issued a civil infraction on investigation.

Identity theft: Someone applied for a credit application from Wells Fargo Bank in an 87-year-old Mercer Island man’s name. The victim learned of the application after receiving a letter from the bank and a call from the Experian credit bureau.

Thursday | 4

Malicious mischief: Someone pried a 78-year-old man’s mailbox off of its base and bent its bracket overnight in the 3400 block of 79th Avenue S.E. The total damage was $40.

Car prowl: A wallet and $150 in cash were stolen out of an unlocked Nissan Xterra overnight in the 9900 block of S.E. 40th Street. A rear window had been left down. The glove box was ransacked and a wallet was stolen out of a purse in the front of the vehicle. ID, gift cards and credit cards were stolen.

Friday | 5

Broken windshield: A 15-year-old Mercer Island female was reported for accidentally damaging the windshield of her mother’s car Friday around 3:20 p.m. after becoming upset that her mother would not take her to go shopping at the mall.

DUI: At 12:13 a.m. several individuals witnessed a reckless driving incident in the 4400 block of 88th Ave. SE. The driver, a 41-year-old Mercer Island man, was arrested for DUI after driving into oncoming lanes, hitting a curb, and operating his vehicle without headlights. The suspect refused to take a breathalyzer test, but a blood draw was later conducted at Overlake Hospital.

Monday | 8

Reckless driving: A driver was reported to be excessively speeding in the 8300 block of the I-90 freeway Monday morning around 1:41 a.m. After being paced going 120 mph in the 60 mph zone, the driver, a 17-year-old Bellevue female, was cited for violating her intermediate license. She admitted she was in a hurry to get home after an argument with her boyfriend.

Car prowl: A 28-year-old Mercer Island man reported a theft in the 3200 block of 80th Ave. SE at 8:08 a.m., Monday morning, after discovering his subwoofer and iPod to be missing from his unlocked Land Rover. He suspects the incident to have taken place sometime between 8:30 p.m., Friday, and 7:40 a.m., Monday. The losses are estimated to be around $800 in total.

Explosive: Someone set off a common improvised explosive device at 8:14 p.m. in an empty parking lot at 3003 Island Crest Way. No buildings were damaged, and no one was injured.

Fraud: A North end woman’s credit card was used in multiple locations in Mercer Island, Kirkland and Seattle between July 5 and 7.
