All-female, African-American book club to share stories in Mercer Island

In 1991, Seattle’s BookClub formed to share and celebrate books written by African-American authors. In addition to great literature, club members also shared decades of one another’s lives, joys, challenges, laughter and tears.

Over time, as personal stories bubbled to the surface, it was decided group members would write short stories to capture how each individual’s experience added to the beautiful multicolored quilt of community and life. Their stories include subjects of civil rights, coming-of-age, career situations, vacation reflections, family relationships, love and more.

Please join The BookClub for their “Life Matters” book Launch. Meet the group members, hear their stories, see the beautiful quilt created for the book and learn more about the origins of this original collection of short stories.

Island Books will have books available for purchase and signing at the event.

The event will run from 2-3:30 p.m. Sunday, July 30 at Mercer Island Library.
