Bevy of MIHS student broadcasters nominated for national broadcasting awards

Nearly 50 Mercer Island High School student broadcasters at KMIH 88.9 The Bridge have been nominated in 40 categories at the upcoming 82nd annual Intercollegiate Broadcasting System awards. The nationally recognized winners will be announced on May 6.

The Bridge students are nominated in a wide range of categories, including Sports Play-by-Play, Best News Interview, Radio Drama and Public Affairs Programming.

“I’m so proud of our 88.9 The Bridge student broadcasters. They have continued to entertain and serve our school and community in spite of a pandemic and are nominated for more awards than ever before,” said Joe Bryant, broadcast media instructor at Mercer Island High School and general manager of the station. “I feel blessed to mentor such an engaged group. Sharing my expertise and overseeing ‘the world’s biggest little radio station’ truly is a dream job.”

Natalie Woods, KMIH 88.9 broadcast media and community outreach coordinator, is thrilled to see the depth and scope of the broadcasters’ programs garner national recognition. Programs they produced with city council candidates and a series they collaborated on with MI PTA’s Parent Edge are among the broadcasts being singled out for excellence in high school radio.

People can listen to KMIH locally at 88.9 FM, stream it live on the station’s website at KMIH.org or download the KMIH app in the Apple or Google Play Store.
