Bicyclist takes a tumble after being hit by vehicle | Mercer Island Police Blotter

A cyclist was knocked off of his bike by a Lexus SUV in the intersection of East Mercer Way and Butterworth Road at 4:12 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9. The vehicle crept four feet beyond the stop line, and when the collision occurred, the bike sheered off the front license plate. The bike lost its front tire, and the 44-year-old cyclist sustained injuries to his ankle, knee and elbow. The driver was cited for failing to yield the right of way.

The Mercer Island Police Department reported 1,043 calls for service in February, with 14 traffic accidents, 310 traffic citations, five hit-and-runs, one DUI accident, three DUI arrests, three burglaries, 25 thefts, one auto theft, one case of aggravated assault and three cases of simple assault. Police made 28 arrests.

March 10

Accident: A collision occurred in the 8000 block of S.E. 27th Street at 4:51 p.m. when a vehicle moved into the center lane, passing a bus, and was T-boned by another vehicle turning westbound onto S.E. 27th Street from a driveway. There were no injuries. The driver of the first vehicle, a 24-year-old Everett woman, was charged with improperly using the center turn lane.

March 11

Accident: A vehicle hit a tree on a slope after going off a wet road in the rain at 11:30 p.m. in the 7600 block of West Mercer Way. The driver, a 52-year-old Mercer Island woman, said she was trying to make a U-turn out of a driveway to head home. The vehicle’s rear showed some damage, which the driver said was likely from hitting a rock. She was cited for inattention.

March 12

Warrant arrest: Police arrested a Mercer Island man, 31, at 3:48 p.m. after contacting him at his residence in the 3000 block of 81st Place S.E. for an outstanding warrant. After his identity was confirmed, the man was booked into the Issaquah Jail.

Arrest: A Mercer Island man, 50, was arrested at 5:22 p.m. in the 7100 block of S.E. 22nd Street after a department of licensing check showed he was driving with a suspended license. His vehicle remained at the scene. After he was processed at the MIPD, he was granted a courtesy transport home.

Car prowl: An unlocked Chevrolet Tahoe was prowled in a driveway in the 4100 block of 78th Avenue S.E. between 1 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. A suspect stole a purse from the passenger seat, along with a dog grooming accessory bag. The purse contained a wallet with approximately $40 in cash.

March 14

Warrant arrest: Police booked a Mercer Island man, 52, into the King County Jail at 1:02 a.m. after confirming an outstanding $7,000 domestic violence warrant.
