Boys and Girls Club to host spring party Saturday

Get ready for a groovy time at this Saturday’s spring party, an annual fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Club. The event starts at 6 p.m. at the Old Boys and Girls Club location on Mercer Island.

The party, which has been going on for about 15 years, has had themes ranging from Born to Be Wild to Kentucky Derby to Prom. This year’s theme is “60s/70s – The Bell Bottom Bash.”

Local band MIMX will be playing, and dinner will be catered by Classic Catering. There will also be a live auction, with the last auction item “prize” awarded to the winner of Disco for Dollars. New this year, Disco for Dollars will allow guests to buy themselves onto the dance floor or buy someone else onto the floor, and anyone already on the floor can buy themselves off. The dancers will be judged by local “celebrity” judges.

Another unique Live Auction item will be the chance to move your table to the shagadellic Lou and Lori Lava Lounge. The signature cocktail will be the “JayMarctini” and there will be a table loaded with “International Boxes of Mystery” for people to bid on.

Register at my.bidpal.net/springparty. Cost is $100 per person.

He appears as a regular broadcast and printed commentator, and has been featured in 8,000 television stories and 15,000 newspaper articles.

The meeting is open to the public and the cost of the program is $15, which includes lunch. For more, contact Mike Cero at mscero@comcast.net.

City to offer internship to graduating seniors

This summer, the city’s Youth and Family Services Department (MIYFS) is offering a Youth Development Internship to address the need for a more formal program that better prepares our youth leaders for careers in Youth Development and/or Human Resources.

The new V.O.I.C.E. Internship Program will help graduating seniors establish roles of leadership as they provide our middle school participants the opportunity to connect with V.O.I.C.E. alumni who act as positive role models.

All interns will work under the supervision of the city’s Youth Volunteer Program Assistants and Youth Development Program Coordinator.

Additional details and an application can be found at www.mercergov.org/voice. This is a paid internship opportunity.

The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20.

For more information contact Tambi Cork, Youth Development Program Coordinator at MIYFS by phone at 206-275-7755 or email tambi.cork@mercergov.org.
