Burglar finds hidden key to Faben Point home | Mercer Island Police Blotter

A burglar found a hidden key and entered a Faben Point home in the 6000 block of S.E. 22nd Street. $3,000 in jewelry was stolen from the residence.

A burglar found a hidden key and used it to enter a home in the 6000 block of S.E. 22nd Street, in the Faben Point neighborhood, sometime between Sunday, Feb. 24, and Friday, March 1. Jewelry was stolen out of the home, and the estimated loss was $3,000.

Feb. 24

Purse theft: An 18-year-old woman’s purse was stolen when she held an open house and showing in the 7800 block of 79th Avenue S.E., in a South end neighborhood west of the Lakes. The purse contained $80 in cash, and the total loss was $382.

Feb. 26

Burglaries: Suspects broke into a home in the 4100 block of 94th Avenue S.E., in a neighborhood east of Covenant Shores, through a rear basement window. They shattered the window, pried the handle open and entered the home but left without stealing any items, as the alarm may have activated upon their entry. The burglary happened between 11 a.m., Feb. 25, and 11:15 a.m., Feb. 26.

A window screen was removed from a residence in a neighborhood northwest of Pioneer Park, in the 6200 block of 82nd Avenue S.E., sometime between 12 and 3 p.m. The resident came home to find the window open, but entry was not apparent and no items were stolen.

Malicious mischief: Someone punched in two vending machines, containing soda and candy, trying to get the money inside sometime overnight in the 9700 block of S.E. 36th Street. The damage was estimated at $200.

Criminal impersonation: Callers pretending to be U.S. Customs agents and an assistant district attorney contacted a 62-year-old North end woman at 12:30 p.m. The callers tried to get $1,500 from the woman by telling her that she must pay a fine for online purchases of prescription drugs and she would be arrested if she did not pay. They wanted her to meet them at the Seattle Federal Court House to pay the money.

Keys theft: A Bellevue woman’s house keys were stolen out of her purse while she was at work in the Island Corporate Center building in the 7500 block of S.E. 24th Street. No other items were taken from her purse.

Feb. 27

Accident: A vehicle struck a Shorewood management golf cart at 2:10 p.m. in the 9000 block of West Shorewood Drive while exiting a parking garage. The golf cart had the right of way but was in the middle of the road, causing a shorter reaction time for the other driver. The golf cart was not damaged.

Bike found: A 56-year-old Mercer Island man reported an abandoned bicycle by the side of the road in the 3900 block of Island Crest Way on Feb. 27. Police recovered the bike.

Feb. 28

Accident: A head-on collision occurred at 6:01 p.m. in the intersection of S.E. 27th Street and 78th Avenue S.E. when a van, driven by a 20-year-old woman, crossed in front of an Audi. Both vehicles had a green light, but the van was making a left-hand turn and failed to yield. Both vehicles’ airbags deployed and an aid unit responded to the scene. No injuries were reported. The Audi was towed with damages. One witness was present.

Hit and run: A 28-year-old resident of Mississippi was found facedown in the road in the 8000 block of East Mercer Way at 5:10 p.m. The victim did not know what happened, but said that he felt pain in his knee and lower back before falling to the ground. He was taken to Overlake Hospital.

March 1

Stolen vehicle: A resident reported a parked vehicle that was “out of place” in the 2900 block of 81st Place S.E. Police found that the vehicle had been stolen out of Renton.

March 2

Car prowls: A stereo was stolen out of a vehicle’s dashboard in the 2200 block of 82nd Avenue S.E., the neighborhood west of the Mercer Island Community and Event Center, sometime overnight. The SUV was parked, unlocked, in the victim’s driveway. Nothing was damaged.

A Chrysler PT cruiser was prowled in the same block that night, and music CDs, $40 in cash, a vehicle registration and flash drive were stolen.

Theft: A package delivered by FedEx to an 81-year-old man was opened and its contents were stolen in the 7700 block of S.E. 22nd Street, on the North end. The package had contained an iPad case, and the estimated loss was $150.

March 4

DUI: Police arrested a 33-year-old man at 2:19 a.m. in the 6000 block of westbound I-90 after stopping his vehicle for several lane travel violations. Police observed an open 12-pack of beer and cans in the backseat. A strong odor of intoxicants was present, and the driver admitted consuming three beers. He failed sobriety tests and was released to a sober friend after standard processing.
