Burglars target professional offices, homes in break-ins

A professional office was burglarized on Sunday night, April 24, in the 2800 block of 82nd Avenue S.E. Burglars stole $70,000 worth of checks along with $300 in cash. Police collected evidence to check for prints.

Someone used Knox Box keys, which are for emergency responders’ rapid entry, to enter a neighboring medical office, then shattered the front glass door and window of the doctor’s office. The office was ransacked, and surgical tools and various office items were stolen.

The burglars then attempted to break into another medical office in the 2800 block of 82nd Avenue S.E. by shattering two front windows, but likely fled when an audible alarm was set off, the police report said.

The next day, on April 25, someone broke into a residence through the double-paned glass front door in the 5200 block of West Mercer Way. An Apple MacBook was stolen along with a Sony video camera and other electronics.

Two exterior doors of a building were propped open in the 2800 block of West Mercer Way sometime after noon on Tuesday, April 26. A three-by-one-foot window was broken, but no items were stolen from the building.

On Wednesday, April 27, a residence in the 8400 block of S.E. 47th Street was burglarized between 3 and 4 p.m. Suspects might have used a stolen key, according to the report, as there was no evidence of any forced entry. A diamond ring and other rings were stolen, along with a Nintendo DS. The estimated loss was $8,000.
