The City of Mercer Island is looking for citizens to serve on a committee about the fire station ballot measure, which is likely to be on the Nov. 6 general election ballot.

The Mercer Island City Council recently approved Ordinance No. 12-04 for Proposition 1 for a nine year levy lid lift for City fire station and fire apparatus.

The City is responsible for creating a committee to write a statement in favor of and against the measure.

The committee in favor of the measure has already been filled, but three Islanders are needed for the opposition committee. The committee will need to submit their 200 word statement against the measure by Aug. 15 to King County Elections. KC Elections will then provide the statements to each committee and they will have the chance to submit a rebuttal by Aug. 17. Rebuttals are limited to 75 words.
