Fares on Washington state ferries will increase this fall, after Washington State Transportation Commission adopted rate increases to ensure the state meets the ferry-fare revenue target set by the Legislature in the recently enacted 2013-2015 transportation budget.

Fares on Washington state ferries will increase this fall, after Washington State Transportation Commission adopted rate increases to ensure the state meets the ferry-fare revenue target set by the Legislature in the recently enacted 2013-2015 transportation budget.

General-fare changes include a 2 percent increase passenger fares and a 3 percent increase on vehicles. The changes would start Oct. 1.

An additional 2 percent increase for passengers and 2.5 percent increase for vehicles would take effect on May 1, 2014.

The commission’s action is based on recommendations from Washington State Ferries, members of the citizen-based Ferry Advisory Committee on Tariffs, responses from public outreach meetings and email comments.
