IMS robotics team wins regional competition/ School briefs

Islander Middle School’s robotics team 98040C won all 12 of its matches to clinch the 2024 Washington Vex Robotics Competition middle school regional championship on March 2 at Cavelero Mid High School in Lake Stevens.

The team is comprised of eighth-graders Harry Nguyen (team captain), Kenan Khatib, Brian Kwon, Henry Xing, Jeremy Leung, Til Wyss and Zevi Danielli.

Team 98040C is one of four middle school teams, out of nearly 60 teams in Washington, to be invited to compete at the 2024 VEX World Middle School Championship in Dallas, Texas, in April.

The team — which is currently ranked 63rd in the world out of 2,889 teams in VEX Robotics Skills — notched the state championship’s innovation award, one tournament champion award, one Think award, one judges award and one sportsmanship award.

CHEER CLINIC

Aspiring cheerleaders in grades 4-8 are invited to attend the Mercer Island High School cheerleading team’s clinic from 5-7 p.m. on March 20-21 at Northwood Elementary School.
