Boys soccer wins KingCo opener

Mercer Island boys soccer won its KingCo league opener over Interlake 2-0 Tuesday night at Interlake High School.

Ryan Hill scored in the 16th and 53rd minutes to lead the Islanders. Hill has scored in each of Mercer Island’s first three games, in which the Islanders have gone 1-1-1.

Mercer Island will take on Newport in a nonconference matchup at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 25 at Newport High School.

Girls tennis defeats Liberty

Mercer Island girls tennis remained undefeated with its third meet win of the season, beating Liberty 6-0 Tuesday at MIHS.

The Islanders swept in singles competition, with Lydia Venditti, Gabby Venditti, Kimia Preston and Caroline Harkins all scoring wins. In doubles, the teams of Caroline Hamilton-Miji Suhr and Melanie Lee-Catherine Seifert each emerged before the final match of the day was rained out.

Mercer Island will take on Inglemoor at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, March 25 at Inglemoor High School.

BLAX hammers Redmond

Islander boys lacrosse improved to 4-0 on the season with a 19-1 hammering of Redmond Tuesday night at Islander Stadium.

Johnny Van der Velden had four goals and eight assists to lead the Islanders. Will Oaks posted five goals and Tiger McBurney scored three for Mercer Island.

Next, the Islanders will take on Lakeridge at 8 p.m. Friday, March 27 at MIHS.
