Yuasa wins at USA Judo tournament; 12 Thunder wins Yakima Tournament.

Islanders compete at 45th Brentwood Regatta

The Mount Baker Junior Crew Women’s Varsity 4+ won their event at the 45th Brentwood Regatta, which took place April 24-26 in Mill Bay, B.C.

The rowing club is comprised of MIHS seniors Anika Christofferson, Margaret Seaton and Gretchen Peterson, junior Charolotte Lepp, and sophomore Isabelle Gahard.

Competing against club teams from Green Lake, Sammamish, Holy Names Academy and Everett and Victoria City, the Mount Baker crew finished with a winning time of 5:38:69.

Yuasa wins at USA Judo tournament

Mercer Island senior Taylan Yuasa took first place at the USA Judo Senior National Championships May 2-3 in Irving, Texas.

Yuasa won the men’s 55 kilogram division by beating top-ranked Christopher Riley of Panther Judo Club in Florida. Yuasa went on to beat Devin Garrido of Kokushikai Judo Academy in New Jersey.

With the wins, Yuasa climbed to a number-two national ranking in USA Judo’s 55 kilogram division.

12 Thunder wins Yakima Tournament

The Mercer Island 12 Thunder won the May Day Mayhem Tournament, which took place April 26 in Yakima.  The 12 Thunder won all five of its games and beat a team from Eagle, Idaho 7-6 in the final.

The 12 Thunder roster includes Alex Arron, Will Atkinson, Nathan Buchan, Tyler Butson, Evan Dickstein, Matthew Feldman, Caiden Fukano, Wesley Ho, Paul Noone, Rory Shanks, Jack Shoop and Tripp White. The team is coached by Peter Noone, Travis White and Richard Buchan.
