Islanders report thefts of electronics, gift cards, tip jar | Police Blotter

The blotter consists of officers’ accounts of crimes and other incidents in Mercer Island. Persons arrested are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

Aug. 14

BURGLARY: A suspect forced entry into an office in the 7500 block of SE 24th St. and stole gift cards and a bluetooth speaker. The incident was reported at 11:37 a.m.

THEFT: At 3:19 p.m., a woman said that an iPad mini and a pair of earrings were stolen from her home in the 6100 block of W. Mercer Way during an open house.

Aug. 16

DOG BITE: A dog bit a 12-year-old boy on the upper left hip at 4:20 p.m. in the 9300 block of SE 68th St. The boy was walking by when the dog ran out of the yard and bit him. The dog was current on its shots.

Aug. 18

BURGLARY: A vintage bicycle was reported stolen from a garage in the 8300 block of SE 83rd St. at 2:52 p.m.

THEFT: A tip jar, containing about $150, was reported stolen from the sushi bar at Sushi Joa at 4:30 p.m.

FRAUD: A victim in the 9000 block of E. Shorewood Drive reported that their Social Security number was used fraudulently at 5:37 p.m.

Aug. 20

FIRE: A garbage can was on fire in the 2000 block of 72nd Ave. SE at 9:11 p.m. The Mercer Island Fire Department responded.

Aug. 23

ARREST: Bellevue police made a traffic stop on a subject that had a Mercer Island court warrant at 11:09 a.m. They were taken into custody and booked into Issaquah Jail.

FRAUD: A man in the 8300 block of 8300 block of Woodbrook Lane reported a scam at 1:17 p.m. He felt that his remote computer IT fix was not legitimate. The problem with his computer was not taken care of, and he lost $349.99.

THEFT: An iPhone was reported stolen from the women’s locker room in the north QFC at 3:21 p.m.

MISCHIEF: A suspect spray painted playground equipment in the 2900 block of 72nd Ave. SE. They also spray painted signs, trees and fences in the area, causing an unknown amount of damage. A neighbor reported the incident at 3:37 p.m.
