King County to hear from citizens on cuts to Metro service May 14

A potential 17 percent reduction in Metro transit service due to a lack of revenue will be the topic of a special meeting of the Metropolitan King County Council’s Transportation, Economy and Environment Committee.

A potential 17 percent reduction in Metro transit service due to a lack of revenue will be the topic of a special meeting of the Metropolitan King County Council’s Transportation, Economy and Environment Committee.

An open house and public testimony will be taken beginning at 3 p.m. for the open house and 4 p.m. for testimony on Tuesday, May 14, at Union Station, 401 South Jackson Street, in Seattle.

Routes to be eliminated on Mercer Island include: 201, 203, 205, 211, 213. Routes that will be reduced are 202 and 204.

The committee wants the public to have an opportunity to tell their leaders how transit service cuts will affect them.

Absent action from the Legislature, King County will begin seeking input this fall on how to cut 600,000 hours of transit service. The cuts are expected to begin in 2014.
