Linton to dance at Paramount

Islander Hillary Linton, a junior at Mercer Island High School, has been dancing since she could walk. This weekend, Linton will demonstrate her skills on stage at the Paramount Theater as part of “Dance This,” a showcase of dance styles from across the world. Now in its 10th year, “Dance This” celebrates young dancers from across the Seattle region.

Now in its 10th year, “Dance This” celebrates young dancers from across the Seattle region.

On July 19, the Paramount stage will come alive with European folk dances, contemporary styles from the United States and traditional vibes from Africa, India, China, the Philippines and beyond. Described as “a Retrospective of Global Proportions,” the show illuminates the diversity and talent of Seattle’s best young dancers.

Linton, a student of Sonia Dawkins and Pacific Northwest Ballet (PNW), is thrilled to perform in next week’s show.

“I’m really excited. I’ve never performed at the Paramount. It’s going to be a great experience,” she said.

The Islander is one of 10 selected dancers to represent Dawkins’ choreography. Together, the troupe will perform a compilation of classical, modern and Broadway dance pieces. Leaving most of the show a surprise, Linton did reveal that two of the pieces are choreographed to the music of “West Side Story” and “The Wizard of Oz.”

Tickets for the Saturday show, which starts at 7:30 p.m., are on sale now at all Ticketmaster outlets.

Dawkins runs the Prism Dance Theater for three years. She has previously performed in the PNW ballets The Nutcracker and Handsel and Gretel, among other shows, and has competed in jazz, modern dance and as a lyrical soloist.
