A new hotel will be built on Mercer Island where the Travelodge was located. Dollar Development Co. has announced that it is proceeding with its development plans for a boutique hotel in the Mercer Island town center, adjacent to I-90. The local developer built the Mercer Luxury Apartments and Hotel Suites, which is next to the new hotel location. The second phase of the Mercer Luxury Apartments is currently under construction and slated to start taking reservations in May.

Early concept drawings show that the five-story boutique hotel, Hotel Mercer, will have more than 100 rooms above a subterranean parking garage with a street level lobby and a second floor pool deck and mezzanine area. Dollar Development has begun discussions with local and national hoteliers, and final design will be predicated on the selection of an hotelier.

The Mercer Island community has been without a hotel for over five years. A new hotel has not been constructed on the Island for 35 years. The hotel will provide Mercer Island residents and visitors with much-needed accommodations and hotel amenities, in addition to easy access to neighboring cities and businesses along the I-90 corridor.

Chek F. Tang, of Studio T-SQ, architect and urban designer, designed renderings displaying a modern hotel with an open layout, allowing light and optimal views of the surrounding water into each suite.
