Lots to check out at this year’s Mercer Island Summer Celebration

Now that the Fourth of July is over, Mercer Island residents can shift their attention to the next big upcoming event – Summer Celebration.

Now that the Fourth of July is over, Mercer Island residents can shift their attention to the next big upcoming event – Summer Celebration.

The 2012 event, with the Spirit of the Olympics theme, takes place July 14-15 around the Island.

The arts & crafts fair will take place from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Booths for local community businesses and non-profits will be open throughout the weekend.

The car show will take place on Sunday, July 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Farmer’s New World Life Insurance parking lot.

This year’s fireworks display will take place on Saturday, July 14 with viewing in Luther Burbank park. The show is expected to start around 10 p.m.

A shuttle is available to help Islanders avoid parking near the park for the fireworks. The Mercer Island Medical Imaging Fireworks Shuttle will run in a loop from City Hall to Luther Burbank Park from 6:30 to 9:45 p.m. After the event, busses will take riders back to City Hall.

The Mercer Island Rotary Club’s Pancake Breakfast will be held on Sunday morning from 8 a.m. to noon at Mercerdale Park. A $5 donation is suggested.
