Mary Wayte Pool Renovation Celebration set for Jan. 30

Special to the Reporter

The Mercer Island School District (MISD) invites the community to attend the Mary Wayte Pool Renovation Celebration from 3:30-5 p.m. Jan. 30 at the pool to celebrate a symbol of community, pride and partnership.

The celebration will include tours of the pool and remarks from Mary Wayte, city and county elected officials and district staff. The pool is located at 8815 SE 40th St.

Backed by a $2 million investment by MISD through the community approved 2021 Capital and Technology Levy and a $2 million King County Grant, a two-phase capital renovation project at Mary Wayte Pool is nearing completion.

Phase 2 of the renovations will be completed by Jan. 30 and include: New acoustical wall panels; installation of new non-slip epoxy flooring in the locker rooms and lobby area; replacement of the diving board, ADA pool access chairs and various pool accessories; and exterior siding repairs.

Phase 1 of the pool renovations were completed in mid-September with the pool reopening on Sept. 16 after a temporary summer closure. These included new exit doors and hardware; pool bowl resurfacing; locker room upgrades; and the reconfiguration of the lobby to create a viewing area, reception desk and restroom improvements.
