Members of the Mercer Island High School band program spent the weekend of April 20 collecting food and donations for the Mercer Island Food Pantry.

After two days of collections the band members gathered together over seven tons of items to be donated to the Food Pantry.

Different sections of the band competed to see which would collect the most food. In the end, the French horn section won, bringing in a total of 128 pounds of food per person.

Band Director Parkey Bixby said the students went door to door to around 95 percent of the Island.

Besides food, the group collected over $1,300 in cash donations.
