The Mercer Island baseball team earned a KingCo win on Friday evening, beating Sammamish in a game that was called early due to the rain.

The Mercer Island baseball team earned a KingCo win on Friday evening, beating Sammamish in a game that was called early due to the rain.

The game started with Sammamish up 2-0 at the bottom of the second inning. The Totems kept the lead until the top of the sixth inning when Mercer Island scored three runs to take the lead.

The game was called because of heavy rain at the end of the sixth inning.

Mercer Island had three runs off seven hits and four errors, while Sammamish had two runs off three hits and no errors.

Mercer Island pitcher Will Mansfield threw for three innings, giving up one hit and striking out four.

Nick Chandler was 2-3 at the plate, scoring a run, while Brian Higgins was 2-3 with a run. The final points of the night came from Jake Stenberg who was 0-3 at the plate, but scored one run. Beau Hibbert was 1-2, Zach Rothenberg was also 1-2.

The Islanders will play at Interlake on Monday, April 22 at 4:30 p.m.
