Mercer Island grad honored with volunteer award

Madeleine Caley, Mercer Island Class of 1986, received the 2009 “Volunteer of the Year” award from her employer: RBC Wealth Management. Caley was recognized for her involvement with Girl Scouts, the Seattle AIDS Walk, Church Auctions, Petersburg Mental Health program in Petersburg, Alaska, Habitat for Humanity and Supporting the Troops.

Caley also volunteers with Girl Scouts as a Troop leader and has previously been a Service Unit Manager for the Edmonds-Lynnwood area. Caley spends time with the girls earning merit badges, chaperoning meetings and retreats, camping, and working on service projects with them; and, of course, selling cookies.

Caley has also helped coordinate the Seattle RBC team for the Seattle Aids Walk, and devoting time to promote and organize the event for area employees. This year, the RBC team was in the top 10 for fundraising in the area. She is also an artist and donates her artwork to various charities for fundraising auctions. She participated in the Habitat for Humanity building project in Seattle and writes letters of support to the troops.

Award winners receive a $1,000 grant to the charity of their choice.
