Burglary
A woman living in the 3600 block of 81st Avenue S.E. reported that her house was broken into on the night of Sept. 6. According to the police report, the burglar forced his or her way into the household and stole bottles of prescription drugs, jewelry, a 19-inch computer monitor, keyboard and mouse. The assailant entered the home by breaking a glass window in a door at the back of the house.
A man living in the 3000 block of 62nd Avenue S.E. reported that a leaf blower was stolen from a shed attached to the front of his house sometime between Sept. 5 and Sept. 7. According to the incident report, the manual for the blower included a receipt with the item’s serial number.
Car prowls
A man living in the 6600 block of S.E. 24th Street reported that his Honda Insight was broken into during the night of Sept. 5. According to the police report, the thief stole a pair of sunglasses, TV/DVD remote control and a Garmin GPS system. The car had been left unlocked. The approximate loss is $270.
A man living in the 4300 block of 88th Avenue S.E. reported that his Alfa Romeo was vandalized and broken into sometime between 7:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Sept. 11. According to the police report, the convertible car was parked in the south parking lot of St. Monica Church. The car’s rear-view mirror was ripped off and its windshield was broken. The trunk was also keyed. A blanket was stolen from vehicle. The rear-view mirror was discovered among empty Budweiser cans in the same parking lot as the incident.
Fraud
An Island man reported three unauthorized charges to his debit card on Sept. 7. According to the incident report, the approximate loss is $1,200. The theft occurred sometime between Sept. 5 and 7.
A woman reported that her brother had been using their mother’s checking account information to fraudulently open accounts and credit cards. According to the police report, the fraudulent activity took place from April 1 to Sept. 4. In total, $357,509 was charged.
Arrests
A Seattle man was arrested for driving with a suspended license in the 3000 block of Island Crest Way on Sept. 10. The driver was caught after police ran a license plate check.
Two 19-year-olds were arrested for possession of marijuana on Sept. 9. According to the police report, the minors were in possession of a small bag of marijuana, as well as two glass pipes and a metal pipe full of marijuana. They also had a scale, grinder and rolling papers. An empty bottle of vodka was also found in the youth’s vehicle. Both males were arrested, processed and released.
Police arrested a man for driving with a suspended license after they pulled him over for expired tabs in the 2500 block of 81st Avenue S.E. on Sept. 9. The driver was arrested and taken to the Mercer Island Municipal Court for his first appearance.
Accident
A two-car accident occurred at the entrance of Bank of America on 80th Avenue S.E. on Sept. 5. According to the incident report, a woman was turning into the bank parking lot when a car struck her vehicle along its right side. The other driver argued that it was she who was struck when turning into the parking lot. police were unable to determine who was at fault.
A man crashed into a rock wall at a residence in the 2000 block of 81st Avenue S.E. at approximately 10 p.m. on Sept. 8 after the car’s power steering and brakes went out. The man was heading northbound from 81st Avenue S.E. toward S.E. 22nd Street when his electrical system failed. A witness observed that the car’s lights went out and saw the subsequent collision. The witness called 911. The driver did not suffer serious injuries.
Mischief
Police were unable to locate a suspect who broke into a locked construction site in the 2200 block of 50th Avenue S.E. on the night of Sept. 9. According to the police report, the suspect activated the “emergency shut-off switch” on a backup generator for a water pump, causing $1 million in damage to construction equipment. Police obtained latent fingerprints and currently have “possible suspects.”
