Mercer Island retrofits City Hall with LED lighting

Mercer Island has implemented efficiency improvements and other maintenance projects during the pandemic.

During a recent inventory of every overhead lighting fixture in City Hall, workers found more than 100 fluorescent tubes had burned out or needed a new ballast. Staff upgraded to LED bulbs, which use only one-third of the energy while generating high-quality light for more than twice as many years.

According to the Puget Sound Energy website, LED bulbs use at least 80 percent less energy while producing the same quality and brightness of light of old incandescent and CFL bulbs, and LED bulbs last 13-25 years longer than incandescent bulbs.
