The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction and the State Board of Education recently announced that Lakeridge Elementary and Island Park Elementary have been awarded the Washington Overall Achievement Award given to the top five percent of schools in the elementary, middle and high school categories.

This highly selective award is based on the school’s performance according to the Washington Achievement Index, a comprehensive measurement of how schools in Washington are performing over time.

An award ceremony was held on May 2 and was attended by the state superintendent of schools, Randy Dorn.

West Mercer Elementary, Islander Middle and Mercer Island High School’s Highly Capable populations (greater than 10 percent) set the index bar exceedingly high for these schools to receive recognition from the state’s program.

This is the fourth time that Lakeridge and Island Park have received the Washington Overall Achievement Award.

Mercer Island High School received the award in 2009 and 2010, and Island Park received a special math achievement and language arts achievement award in 2009, in addition to their 2009 overall award.

This year, both Lakeridge Elementary and Island Park are being recognized for overall excellence and for achievement in science. Island Park has also earned honors for achievement in math.
