Mercer Island soccer club team takes second at tourney | Sprots brief

The Mercer Island Youth Soccer Club’s U12 team, nicknamed Mercer Island Force, earned a second-place finish in the Washington State Founders Cup. The team lost to Crossfire in the championship match by penalty kicks.

The Mercer Island Youth Soccer Club’s U12 team, nicknamed Mercer Island Force, earned a second-place finish in the Washington State Founders Cup. The team lost to Crossfire in the championship match by penalty kicks.

Mercer Island Force played seven games in the tournament, allowing just one goal during those games and scored 13 of their own.

It was the team’s first year playing together, often times against other teams which have spent the last several seasons together.

The MIYSC U14 girls team recently won the state tournament.

Island soccer play signs to play in Spokane

Mercer Island senior defender Emilio Gojio recently signed a letter of intent to play for Spokane Falls Community College starting next fall. Emilio played soccer with the Mercer Island Youth Soccer Club and Mercer Island High School, as well as a club team based at Starfire in Tuwkila.
