The Mercer Island girls basketball team split the results of it’s first week of nonconference games. The Islanders beat Redmond on Tuesday, Nov. 27 and lost to Inglemoor on Friday, Nov. 30.

The Mercer Island girls basketball team split the results of it’s first week of nonconference games. The Islanders beat Redmond on Tuesday, Nov. 27 and lost to Inglemoor on Friday, Nov. 30.

Against Redmond, Mercer Island won 46-44.

The Mustangs led the game at halftime 30-21, but Mercer Island scored 17 points in the final minutes of the game to edge out their opponent.

Senior Kris Brackmann had 14 points during the game, while Julia Blumenstein added 10 for the Islanders. Renae Tessem had eight points, Jessica Blakeslee posted five, Christina Williamson added four, Jamie Mounger had three points and Suri Johnson added two.

Mercer Island hosted Inglemoor in another nonconference game on Friday, falling 63-44 to the Vikings.

Inglemoor was up 30-20 at halftime, and added 19 points in the third quarter to extend the lead, followed by 14 in the fourth quarter, while holding Mercer Island to just 10 points on the board.

Brackmann had 11 points for the team, while Blakeslee added eight, Blumenstein had six, Tessem added five and Marlo Cafarelli and Williamson each had four points. Mounger posted three for the Islanders and Rachael Tessem had two points, with Yasmeen El-Rafey adding a point.

The Islanders will travel to play Sammamish at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7.
